I work in Lake Mary, so I get to check the happenin' night-time cougar spots out during the day, in bright light. And Dexter's is NO exception. I've hit this place MANY times for lunch - all have been excellent. The food here is top notch, they have fresh specials that rotate. My favorite sandwich is a hybrid Cuban and Ruban - don't shake your head, it is freakin' delicioius! I will tell you this though: the atmosphere here matches the rest of Lake Mary, and I just can't identify a heart in this place. This is not a requirement, keep in mind, but if you've been to the Dexter's Downtown, then you know what it should and CAN feel like. This Dexter's is a bit snooty, VERY clean, the art feels more formal, waiters are dressed super nice,... it just doesn't have the heart and soul of the other Dexter's. So yes I am a huge fan of their food, but not so much of their atmosphere. But considering their location, there's not too much I can do about it besides haul ass to the downtown Dexters.

If you're a 25-35 year old man and want to get hit on every 5 minutes, go on Thur night Oh, get their sweat potato chips!

I look at these other reviews, and, well, I'm just not gettin' it! Ordered the $10 margarita (forgot what it was called), and sent it back, because it was overdosed with sour mix (pixie stix in a glass, anyone?) and held a pile of salt in the bottom (after I'd asked for just a little salt). That's okay, not everyone can make a killer margarita, but for $10? Come on. Ordered the chips for an appetizer, which never arrived, so hubby had them removed from our bill at the end of the evening. Dinner, meh. His white spinach lasagne failed to impress either of us. The cheese was the best part. We've had better marinara from a jar of Ragu. I had the Bourbon St. Jambalya, and picked out some of the meat, left everything else. The shrimp was tough and chewy, and the rice was hard and crunchy. The manager agreed the rice was "a litle too al-dente." Rice? Al-dente? Really? Can we say, "grossly undercooked?" Who wants crunchy rice! To salvage the evening, our waitress (quite nice and sweet, by the way), removed the drink and jambalya from our bill (we didn't ask her to do this), and she delivered a coupon for a free meal to our table. But I'm thinking, if the food is so bad we can't eat it, why would we come back for a free meal? I'm scratching this place off my list. There's much better food to be had in Lake Mary.

New to the area and I've been here 5 times and only have gotten good service at the bar, especially from Kayla and Kevin. The rest of the staff needs to be trained by these 2 folks, because any other time including the hostesses, the attitude and service are awful. Food is good when you can get it under an hour. God help you if its a holiday or if they are busy. You'll be there a good 2 hours waiting AFTER you've been seated. And ummm, we don't care that you have a 20 top that is consuming all of your wait staff - we have money too! And you didn't plan on that?? The other time we received bad service, there was hardly anyone in the place, so go figure. I'm only giving 3 stars for the food and would give more for the bar staff.

Love their crab dip with chips! Great outdoors and friendly prompt staff. My husband likes it so we finally share a place that we can both enjoy. It's far away from where we live, but a nice drive to get away. I don't give it a four or five starts because all i really like is the dip and the rest of the food doesn't blow me away.

Had a good lunch with my wife. Love the location. We go to Colonial Town center often. My wife likes to shop and we grab some beers. Dexters would benefit from more variety since the other bars there seem to draw heavily on people who like to drink beer.

They try to be hip. There's some apple cheese flatbread thing that's really good. I loved the salmon. My fiancé and I had our first date here so it has a special place in my heart. But we don't usually go here because Amura is only 15 feet away and we end up spending the same amount of money.

I live and work in Lake Mary and eat at Dexter's for lunch at least 3 days a week. It's so good, I could eat there 5 days a week. The soup's are the best! I want the recipes. There is so much variety on the menu, I never get bored. My favorites are the Corsican Salad with Chicken, anything from the Specials Menu and the Soups! The only thing I would avoid is the Caesar Salad. It's just ok, but everything else is fantastic.

Another lake mary favorite! Delicous food and drinks! And yes.... you will very often find the late night Cougars partyin it up! lol

Meh, I've had better experiences, (Amura 2 doors down for instance). I imagined something quite different than our experience tonight...and maybe thats where I went wrong. In my mind, if you're running a biz, you ALWAYS put your best effort forward. Like, Dexter's $1 hamburgers. Me-I'd hand make small patties or "sliders" how much freekin effort does that take...you know the Golden Rule "Under promise OVER deliver". So, these come with a slice of lettuce about the size of a postage stamp on a frozen 1/4lb patty...most any other toppings were .50¢ ea. The burgers were tasteless, overdone and DRY...Yeah, they were a dollar...so whats to B about? Well, they sucked thats what I'm PO'ed about! Now, here's Dexter's chance to put their best face forward...and they blow it over a STUPID $1 hamburger! If I owned this place, I fire everyone TONIGHT. Some call Dexter's the Cougar Den...I call it a den of inequity :O(

Best place for brunch in the entire area. Sitting outside on the patio area is fantastic and the neighborhood and atmosphere couldn't be better. Unlimited mimosas in a variety of delicious flavors for $10.00 is a steal. The Hangover burger is one of the best brunch dishes we have ever experienced and the crab cakes eggs benedict is to die for. Service has always been above and beyond excellent and it is a place we continue to go again and again. A little pricey but well worth it.

I have been to the Dexters in Winter Park several times and had good experiences and recently went to the Lake Mary location. I went on a Wednesday night and sat out on the patio. The had two acoustic guitar players inside that sounded good but we chose to sit outside so we could talk. There wasn't a table available so the hostess had one brought out just for us. Our waitress was busy when we were first sat (She was dealing with some ridiculous, rude customer arguing about trying too use two coupons when it clearly says one) anyway another waiter came by to take drink orders and he was nice Wine list is nice, good selection away from the normal by the glass offerings . Our actual server did a great job as well. Everything came out on time and she was very attentive. I had the tuna burger which I've had at Winter Park and it was just as good in Lake Mary. It's not the usual grilled tuna steak, it's a ground tuna patty and grilled. Excellent and unique. We also tried the cheeseburger...it was good...cheeseburger. Also had the asian beef tips which was good, nice chunks of beefed cooked to temperature and good flavored sauce. Only complaint was that the sticky rice was mushy and I didn't like it but everything else was good so I didn't complain and was just a minor thing. We didn't do dessert as the Cold Stone across the way was calling our name. I've read the reviews on here and can understand the mixed reviews. It's about what you are looking for etc as Dexter's offers different things at different times. Perhaps the service is inconsistent, I don't know but mine was excellent and I will be back.

It seems that I only happen to stop in here on Thursday nights...which coincedently is Ladies Night...hmmm... :D Dexters is also "lovingly" called "The Cougar Den"...so when it's Ladies Night, it's the more mature ladies if ya know what I mean. I love that I'm 32 and I get carded here almost everytime cause I look like a young lamb amongst the Heathrow Hunnies...yes, that's what we call them. :D It is hip happening though and it's always very crowded. The dance floor is usually always packed, not saying it's the most graceful dacing, mostly train wrecks, but they are having a great time and isn't that what it's all about these days? Enjoying the moment?? Everyone here definetly enjoys themselves!!! The drinks are good. Martini's are what they are known for, the caramel apple is a fave amongst the crowd. I happen to enjoy their Happy Gilmore which is the Arnold Palmer with sweet tea vodka...drooling! The staff is at the bar can get over whelmed at times, but it really doesn't take that long to get a drink, especially if you're an attractive lady, the men will part seas to let you in. :D I have infact eaten here a few times and it's always been good. From burgers to salads it's always fresh, served to order and they have REALLY yummy desserts as well. So check it out and then let me know what you think :D

Great place for singing and drinking. Live music makes the experience of being at Dexter's a happy & fun place.

Food and drinks were decent but felt neglected by the bartenders even though the place wasn't that busy. I went there again to see if it was a one time thing, but it happened again with different bartenders.

lunch - good burger and good salads. At night it's scary when the cougars are on the prowl hunting for young men.

I had to finally get this review out. I am over and done with this place. We have have now eaten dinner here a total of 3 times and lunch now 1 time. We gave it more than one chance and we are done with Dexters. First off.. we have been to the Winter Park Dexters also and quite frankly I do not get it. Food is just mediocre at both locations. The prices are high for the quality of food at both locations. So this is not just a locale thing. To be clear this review is service and food related. If you are into the singles bar scene then have at it at this location. Just be aware that the service and food will be crap. Each time we have visited the Lake Mary location: - Service is just OK and nothing special. - Atmosphere is OK and nothing special. - Food is mediocre and just blah. - Menu variety is OK but some of the items on the menu are just weird. - Dishware and Glassware are dirty and we have had to request for new replacements everytime. Go at your own risk but we are done giving the chances to Dexters. No more for us.

In figuring the stars I went with an average. It is three stars if just looking to go on a Thursday night thru Friday with girlfriend/spouse or friends in a relationship. It is 5 stars if looking for 35 year old and up Cougars. Assume any women there is a willing Cougar and your batting average will be close to .1000. I am a happily married man so I fall in the former and the place is mediocre. The drinks are slightly on expensive side and the place is rather loud. I will say that there are some bars that you walk into and nobody even looks up from what they are doing. This place is the opposite. You get the feeling that your being checked out by every woman. True meat market. So to sum it up they don't call this the Cougar Den for nothing. If you are a man and looking for a quick fling with some "damaged goods" this is your Eden. If a women or man not looking for a fling but looking for drinks and conversation there are better spots.

This place is great for lunch or dinner. The menu has a lot of selection but most of all tastes good. Great for evening out, their local live band nices are wonderful, or for a business lunch, you name it, Dexter's has it!

Great salads for lunch. Corsican salad yummy. Good quality not too expensive but definitely higher end.

Go here a lot late night. Crowd late 20s to late 40s. Nice place to grab a drink. Need to come with money though, a tad bit pricey on the drinks!

Eh, the food is alright. I've only been here for lunch, and while I've never had bad food, sometimes it is underwhelming for the price. A nine dollar burger had better be pretty damn good. They do offer some good vegetarian dishes, which helps our lunch crew when we are looking for a place to eat. Service is spotty at times, I'd give it 4 stars for food, but ding it one for service. Just a quick update. I ordered a lamb burger at lunch today, medium rare. It was way rare. They obliged in remaking the order, but commented that some people's opinion of medium rare is different. That does not give me confidence that the kitchen staff is using thermometers on the meat, and I'll take that into account next time I order. Once the burger was remade, it was quite tasty and filling. I won't fault them for that.

Went for Sunday brunch. Bought a bottle of wine, appitizers, food and made sure to not be a burden while dining. Our server never smiled and seemed irritated she had to wait on us. At the end of our meal, the server, Ashton, took our money and never came back. She assumed that the 30% tip was for her and never returned. We were shocked that she had no decency to mention "i'll be back with your change" and let US decide what we want to leave.

i've only been here for lunch, so i can't speak for any frivolities during the evening hours. with that said, the sandwich that i ordered was pretty good and it was a generous serving. service was friendly. parking is in the shopping center parking lot.

great food, awesome crowd, anywhere from late 20s to early 40s. Good spot to come to meet friendly people and have a meal.. I have been to this location about 4 times. Best nights to go are Thur-Sat again like any bar.

I've been going to Dexter's since it was a little wine shop/cafe on Fairbanks in WInter Park. My favorites include: Homemade Chips, Bloody Mary (w/shrimp garnish), Dexter's Special, Asian Noodle Salad with Chicken and Shrimp and anything they serve for brunch, especially Shrimp and Grits, when available. It's a great reliable restaurant.

    (5)
  • Lani G.

5 stars for service. "Brett Farve" was an excellent server - very knowledgable and enthusiastic about the dishes! Today my meal was a 3 star, which saddens me, because I love Dexter's. I had the Mahi bahn mi and it was not that great. The fish was dry and overcooked, there wasn't much of the radish topping, and all the sauce was in the crevice of the bread, so the majority of the sandwich was sauceless. My coworkers all enjoyed their meals and the bite of the eggplant dish I had was delightful. I'll definitely get that next time.

Times I have gone it's been loud since there was a dj or rock band... Decide wise it's nice and seating when available is nice.. Food is over priced but good.. Servers seem snobby... Especially if you get a attractive girl they all seem unhappy. My issue was with the over priced drinks that barely had any alcohol... One night I had 3 amerretto sours, 2 mojitos and a drink that they claim had a lot of alcohol that tasted like juice... I don't drink often at all I drank so much cause I was in a party and after three drinks I'm getting buzzed and done but I wasn't buzzed at all that night. We complained to the server and her snobby remark was " I don't make the drinks so don't blame me". That's why she earned a solid 3 dollar tip on a 80 dollar check... I'm sorry but if you treat me like crap I'll return the favor via your tip.. You should go if you have nothing better to do and it's a last restore but if not stay away

Manager was rude and condescending. It really makes you wonder about a restaurant when the manager eats Papa John's pizza in the dining room and then passes out the Fubyuns to the bar staff. Guess their good isn't good enough for the staff to eat.

    (1)
  • Lana B.

I have to laugh at all these reviews. "Cougar den". Lol! This is definitely a place for the older rich woman to enjoy their snooty meal and hit on some young men whilst listening to live horrible local musicians. Food wise. I'll pass on the weird food. I like a complex fancier dish. But this place just does it all wrong. I've been here 3x and I've never enjoyed myself. Possibly because I'm a young lesbian woman. :') The heathrow plaza has yet to offer a good restaurant. (Does Publix's deli count? Their fried chicken is banging)

Service, 5 stars. Very nice on the inside. Awesome customer service. I was with 3 other people. Their portion size of their meals were pretty huge. I saw it was $1 burger tuesday and i wasnt really all that hungry. So I decided to get one of those. They'll get you with 50 cents per topping if you really load it up. Which in my case I only needed two toppings. BUt the size of this burger. In regards to the meat patty was for lack of a better word. "Sad" Imagine putting a full size shirt in the dryer by mistake and you shrink it 2 sizes. Thats kind of what this meat patty looked like. Like someone tossed the burger in a dryer and it shrunk. It was thin and small. You could literally get a better burger at Burger King. The only reason I didnt knock more stars off is probably because I wasnt really hungry to begin with, so it wasnt a big deal, and the service was out standing. Also I tried bites from some of the other food that was brought out and it was good.. Would I return, sure, would I ever order a burger from here again. No way

Located in the Colonial Town Park Plaza in Lake Mary/Heathrow/Sanford area. This large wine bar & restaurant has a great selection of small plates, appetizers, salads and full blown entrees. A nice outside patio with umbrellas to enjoy an after work beverage or dinner. Service is friendly and prompt. Happen to be by when the new 5-7 small plates & cocktail menus were being introduced. There were a lot of nice choices for beverages and food. The manager stopped by all of the tables to talk about the new menu and ask if all was well. Nice touch. Be sure to follow their facebook, as this location has different specials than Winter Park and Thornton Park. The cocktails we enjoyed were made nicely, food was yummy and the classic Cha Cha chips were delicious.

I came here with my wife one Friday evening, to hear my cousin's band, Bender perform. The place was jammed packed with people, and so were the surrounding restaurants and bars. My wife and I sat down in the bar area and we had an artichoke crab dip appetizer. It was rather quite tasty. This appetizer was accompanied by some margarita cocktails. They too were quite tasty. The service from our waitress was really good, considering the place was jam packed full of people and it made it difficult for her to make her way through the crowd. The band went on at about 10 PM. I must say my cousin's band plays very well. I went here just to listen to Bender, but this really isn't my kind of establishment because it is just too noisy for my comfort level. When I have to scream at my wife, so that she can hear what I'm asking, or what I'm saying. This is not the kind of environment I want to be in.

Stopped in for a drinks with friends 5/30 around 10pm. Live band Rockit Fly was awesome. Average drink prices. Service was fast at the bar. Great crowd of clean cut respectable people average age of 30-55 all partying hard to the bands endless hits of cover songs. Great time!

We were seated immediately and the waiter had our drinks very quickly. I had the Smith Salmon salad. This was quite possibly the BEST salad I have ever had in a restaurant. The selection of greens was perfect - flavorful but not over-powering. The salmon was also done exactly to my order. Everyone in our party was pleased with the service and the food.

Had brunch there with the $12.00 bottomless mimosas and I also had the chicken and biscuits with sausage gravy. Truly legendary. It is legitimately the best thing ever.

One of my favorite place, especially sitting outside. I love the salmon salad, the chicken pesto sandwich or the Flatbread appetizers. Best time to enjoy it is between 5 to 9pm.

We typically stop here after church on Sunday's. Our wait time is usually minimal, but today it seems to be a little longer than usual. The wait staff is always bustling, but the ladies at the front stand are just annoying. They tell you one thing about the wait, and then do something totally different. I always get the feeling that I'm irritating them when I ask how long the wait is. I really appreciate the manager, he always asks if there is anything he can do to make our visit better! Our favorite server is Abby! She always has a smile that brightens the room and makes our kids feel welcome. The food is really good here too! It's one of the main reasons we keep coming back!

Justin, the coward line cook, he cannot possibly consider himself as a Chef, has no talent! This restaurant needs talent! Not short man's syndrome! The food is bland!! Please find real talent!

My wife had a chicken salad sandwich and I had a chicken wrap. Both were served quickly and were very very good. The atmosphere is always very nice. While today it was just my wife and I we enjoy bringing our puppies since they will allow them to sit with us outside. Our server (Chris) was very pleasant and attentive

Two words: Drunk Brunch. That's what my mom, sister, and I lovingly refer to Sunday brunch at Dexters. Unlimited mimosas for $10! Trust me, I got my money's worth today. I've been many times, and I love the Maryland Benedict, and the Dexters Benedict, but today I ate my other favorite off the brunch menu. The smoked salmon and goat cheese flatbread. Delicious! Off the regular menu, I'd recommend the eggplant Napoleon, the key lime mahi-mahi sandwich, and any of the salads. Don't forget to try the sweet potato fries - made in house and delicious with the aioli they are served with.

Dexter's in Lake Mary is our favorite restaurant. The food is always excellent, the drinks are superb and the service is second to none! They always make you feel special and welcome whether it's your first or 500th visit. The menu has a lot of "regular" items but with very interesting twists. The staff is very knowledgeable and will help you make an excellent choice (everything on the menu is excellent). We are there at least once a week and we do have our favorite servers, David, Camille and Chris and Jen behind the bar, but all the servers are great. The managers, Randy and John, are always going from table to table to make sure everything is to your satisfaction! If it isn't (this almost never happens) then they will make it right. We cannot recommend this restaurant highly enough! There aren't enough stars in this rating system!!!!

  • Ali H.

Not nearly as pretty as the Winter Park location, but easier to get a seat. We always come for the Sunday brunch and endless mimosas for $10. I have tried various dishes and the special this visit, a salmon quesadilla, really tempted me... however I cannot stop myself when I can get the chicken and biscuits. It is such a guilty pleasure! Rich, delicious, creamy gravy and expertly fried chicken that's never greasy. It's a must try. Reasonable prices for this area too.

Go here, eat here!!!! I've eaten the fod twice and have been very happy. I ordered the Mahi Mahi with crab mac n cheese and the cranberry chicken salad on a warm pretzel bun and they were both sooooo good. They also have great bloody mary's.

Stop here often, food is good. Meat temps can come out a little over what you expect , but not over the top. Main reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is service can be hit or miss and the hostesses don't even look at you when they speak to you sometimes

    (4)
  • Andrew Z.

We came for a late dinner on a Tuesday night and went for the burger special because, why not. It was probably the worst burger that I have ever had, tough and tasteless. McDonalds has better burgers (yuck). The fries were good and there was a decent selection of drinks, but if the burger is a good representation of the rest of the menu, we won't be back.

    (2)
  • Anthony M.

The food here is phenomenal! I especially love the seafood burrito they have at lunch every day. And you cannot forget their specially made hotsauce that you must ask for specifically. If they have any...... they constantly run out. . . ;-)

Dexter's is a cool place to hang out. They have a nice outdoor area and all that fun stuff. They have decent food (nothing special, but there's something for everyone), and they have decent drinks. It's nothing to write home about, but it's solid.

  • Edward W.

The Dirty Dexter Martini was perfect. Dinner was less so. The Mediterranean Chicken was not as described. No artichoke hearts or tomatoes and I believe I was served rice instead of ourzo. Disappointing. The creme brûlée was too loose and the sugar tasted more burnt than caramelized. The waiter was good and very personable. If I were to go back, I would try a dish less ambitious.

    (3)
  • Jennifer R.

What could be wrong about a place that offers unlimited mimosas? Nothing. I have frequented this place a few times but usually just for drinks. I went recently to brunch and had the chicken biscuit with gravy... I ate the entire thing. I never eat the entire thing. I'll be back one Sunday very soon!

  • Grant C.

Never disappointed with the food here. Very consistent and flavourful whether it be pasta, sandwiches, salads, or entree. Great quality food with obvious effort put into the preparation. The waiters and bar tenders are always on top of things. My overall consensus is that they go the extra mile in all regards, rare thing for an Orlando area restaurant.

I've been to all of The Dexters' locations - this happens to be the closest to my work - it's always great! Very good prices and tasty fresh food. They always offer to give me a to go cup for my tea. Some of my favorite things are the cast iron skillet salad also the cha-cha chips. My one con and why I didn't give it 5 stars is the price. Prices are a little high. I just got a salad today via take out and it was over $17.56 - and I didn't have a drink. It wasn't even big enough to stretch it out to two meals, soooooo..either they need to lower their prices or they need to give bigger portions.

Went here tonight to meet someone for drinks and decided to order dinner. We had started off with a couple of drinks and after seeing/smelling all the meals getting carried by us we decided to go ahead and order dinner. We both ordered off the dinner specials menus and were very happy with our meals. I ordered, of all things, meat loaf. I NEVER would have thought in a million years that I would have ordered meat loaf out at a restaurant, but I'm sure glad I did. The description pulled me in... talking about the spinach stuffed meat loaf, goat cheese mashed potatoes, and green beans with bacon. Oh my yum. When it came out it was definitely the prettiest plate of meat loaf i'd ever seen. Two big slices of meat loaf, mashed potatoes, and green beans. I didn't think I was going to finish it all, but there wasn't a bite left. It was definitely comfort food but kicked up a notch. I would order this again in a heart beat. Our waitress was spot on as well. She was attentive without being a pain in the butt. When we were having a hard time deciding what to order, she made some suggestions that helped us narrow it down. We got there before the "dinner rush" and enjoyed that it wasn't overcrowded.

Went last Friday night for dinner. Had the special pecan encrusted mahi with orzo and asparagus. The mahi was super salty and overlooked, very dry. Service was very good for a large party.

For some reason, this place gets hopping for the late night. Why? I don't understand? This was a frequent stop for work lunches. Everyone seems to have heard of or eaten at Dexter's - very safe inoffensive choice. The food is predictable, the service ok, and there's something on the menu for most. I wouldn't go here for dinner, it's nutty. The service is bad and all the snotty couples are out - this is a work lunch only spot for me. If I'm going to dinner, I'm going to dinner, not an expensive trumped up lunch served at night.

Really, just "meh". I guess this place is beloved for its atmosphere, but I feel like I'm a little below its target demographic. I'd like to see more beer options and a better wine list. The food is acceptable but nothing to write home about. The menu is a little limited/repetitive. I've never had a server who seemed overly familiar with their choices, though never incompetent. I certainly don't refuse to come here when friends want to, but it's never my idea. Their live music, in my experience, is never very good-- though admittedly not all the way to ear-scraping.

Wow had my first dinner at Dexters and it was awsome just like all the lunches I have had there the bacon wrapped fillet was the best so so tender cooked to perfection seasoned beautifully plated perfect great service

Dinner was great, but one person in my party wasn't happy with the eggplant (she said it was too bland). The manager asked how our meal was and she was honest. He offered to replace the meal with another one, but my friend was content with the French fries we ordered. Without a second thought, he offered to take the dinner off our bill and the waitress apologized profusely. None of that was required, as it was simply her palate that wasn't happy...but that was customer service at its finest! (Oh, and the French fries were perfect!)

Very decent. Salads are great. Bartenders are on task. Eating at the bar after a round of golf is perfect.

I had the biscuits and gravy - nice portion and tasty. The chicken was nice and crispy. It's on the heavier side but I would recommend if you are hungry.

I'm in town for work and are their for both lunch and dinner yesterday. We had a large lunch party and everyone was satisfied. Their menu is creative and their presentation is nice. Also, nice wine list. I really enjoyed their crusted Mediterranean chicken.

Walked to Dexters from the office, had a great quick lunch. Started with the mixed chips, which were legit dipped in the sweet chili sauce. Everyone's meal looked good. I had the Key West Mahi sandwich, which was very tasty, but I next time I would ask for the sauce on the side.

Food is good. Staff was nice. We went as a group for lunch during the week. It took a little while to get our food and checks closed out. I would have understood better if the place was busier. I enjoy this place as a night spot. They have a live band and a small dance floor.

I went with a small group of friends on a Saturday at 3:30 in the afternoon. I ordered a chicken quesadilla, and my wife got one of their salads. The service wasn't terrible, and the food wasn't great. Looking around the plaza, I'm sure that there are places with better food and better service for about the same price. Dexter's wasn't terrible, but it also wasn't memorable. I'd be willing to give them another try, but I wouldn't rush back or suggest them to a friend.

First time at Dexter's. Visiting from Virginia. Ate lunch. Loved the casual atmosphere. Food was fantastic. Had the lamb burger and their unique side salad. It was absolutely delicious!!! I'm definitely heading back here before my trip is over.

Absolutely delicious food at great prices. The BEST bartenders in the area, actually know how to mix drinks, are polite and fast. GREAT PLACE! Can't go wrong anytime of the day.

Event: Sunday night dinner for 5, no reservation Pros: -Very tasty food-- from the fries, to the risotto, to the Cast Iron Skillet Salad -Substitutions were welcome -Large restaurant with outdoor seating Con: -One customer convinced they found a hair in their food -Lots of student waitresses/slightly all over the place -Minor mistakes with order, but were quickly corrected Sum: The closest to a 5* restaurant I've experienced in the area

I wanted to email this review directly to the restaurant rather than making public, but unfortunately they didn't have an email address to contact. I've been to Dexter's several times as I travel to Lake Mary on biz frequently, and I've never had a bad meal. This was not the case this visit. I ordered the Mahi which stated would be topped with Artichoke hearts and crab meat on top of shrimp risotto. First of all, there was no crab meat to be seen, I think there was maybe a finger nail sized artichoke heart, and despite the 'campbell's soup quality sundried tomatoe sauce' the risotta was very dry, shrimp seemed more like sea monkeys, and the WORST part was there were sliced green olives strewn about the dish which was never reflected in the menu. The olives gave the dish an overly salty taste, and added nothing!

Certainly one of the best places in Colonial Townpark.. Decent drinks, decent food, decent prices usually. The staff is usually friendly and fairly knowledgeable about their menus. I don't go terribly often, but when I do I can't complain about anything.

Like most of the reviews on here, it's pretty much a hit or miss type of place. The hostesses are usually not very friendly. Not sure if they think every guy every wants them (and we don't honey, so drop the 'tude ) the waitstaff is *usually* pretty good. There's always one in the bunch though eh? The food has been been fresh for me but my friend got food poisoning so bad from a burger not only has she not been back, she quit eating burgers altogether (can't even stand the smell without gagging). Friday and Saturday nights usually have some live music that's very loud so don't plan on conversing with anyone.. The drinks are usually good. Parking isn't optimal. Better food to be had with less snooty hostesses right across the street.

What on earth is this place? Is like the old Belgians located in Altamonte Springs, not far from the I-4, Bennigans. Only difference is- the crowd too old to be hip and sheek and just don't know it, but they really need to be told, Its just hard watching others take a nose dive- you know? I was "taken" there for my 40th birthday with a group of friends from down here in Fla. My Boyfriend, at the time flew down from Denver to be here on my Birth date, for this dinner in particular, (more then a few years ago.) and he really wasn't please at all. I was embarrassed for the people who chipped in to pay for my party. I did NOT want them to know- I love them- I loved my part- but this place sucks! This place is horrible even tried this place again for brunch, within this last year and... Eye openers are disgusting. What ever you do - stay away from the "Bloody Mary"- Its just Bloody nasty. A can of V'8 s isn't a Bloody Mary for gosh sakes. Seriously, shrimp for a garnish- gross. The food is none the better. Its just nasty and not even as good as Bennigans in their hay days. The clientele is loud and obscene and ill bred with no manners at all. You about have to fight through a mob of -ickish- to be led to your table. A couple meeting for dinner would get separated and lost. Honestly, there is nothing on the menu to order worth the price or the lack of anything memorable. Unless you like generic at best. This place comes off like a meat market for the over 30 crowd... and I am not willing to try it again.

Food is decent. Service is decent. Nothing spectacular. I do recommend coming on a Friday or Saturday to suit back and watch the cougars prey on young guys. Truly entertaining since there's not much going on at night in Lake Mary.

I went here this past Friday night! The area is so pretty I love all of the Christmas decorations ! Also the service was great. I had a spicy Cuban chicken sandwich which was delicious!!!!!! They had a live band there which was pretty good. If you're looking for a place to chill out with friends and have drink maybe even something to eat this is the place to :) I truly enjoyed it.

The mahi mahi with shrimp risotto cakes? Nom nom nom! Great atmosphere, cozy outside seating, manager who apologized for the delay when there wasn't a delay, the friendly waitress who could actually make intelligent recommendations on the drink and dinner menu....me likey! I will be be back at some point soon.

The place is great, great atmosphere. The best place in the whole plaza.

Definitely a fan of this place. The crab cakes are awesome. Every time I open the menu, I want to try other stuff...but every time the crab cakes call to me like some sort of caked crustacean siren. Almost impossible to resist. Yeah, I said caked crustacean siren. The crab dip appetizer is also a winner. Lots of people seem to love the sweet potato chips, but I'm just not a fan. The outside seating (with torches for that perfect yuppie look) is great if you're going at night. The inside gets a little hectic and full of people of a certain young professional sleaziness...but if you're only going inside to use the bathroom, your d-bag barrier will hold up ok. Any longer and you're risking wanting to leave. The service has always been excellent every time we've gone. They're very attentive even when it's really crowded. That goes a long way too.

Dexter's is an awesome place to go hang out. The staff is friendly and efficient at getting you drinks. The bar has plenty of seating to sit and chill. With a combination of DJ's and cover bands, depending on the night, there is some good music to rock to! Overall, an awesome place to go after work for a drink ... or possibly meet some new people!

I had lunch today with colleagues and was horrified at the terrible food. I ordered the pastrami and not only did the bread come toasted so well it was black, but the pastrami was not pastrami. It was pressed fake something. Being from NY, I know what pastrami is supposed to taste like and this wasn't it. Not only that but it wasn't hot at all. The toasted bread made the outer layers luke warm and the rest inside was cold. Plus it's billed as the giant sandwich but the presentation is such that it looks filled with meat, but when you pull away the bread, the meat barely covered 1/4 of the sandwich. Totally disappointing. Not to mention how horrible my stomach felt the rest of the afternoon. If you want an amazing pastrami sandwich go to Liam Fitzpatricks, where they also have an outstanding reuben which arrives hot and the bread is lightly toasted...the way it's supposed to be. I've had good dinners at Dexters but this is the second time I've had lunch there and I was absolutely NOT impressed at all.

The Lake Mary Dexter's is almost 2 places in 1. First the food. The food is always great. They have really creative fish dishes and the eggplant Napoleon is really good. I love to sit on the patio on cool Sunday mornings for the brunch. Part 2 The bar. As all the others have said: This is Cougar Town! They have good live music, but its a jungle in there.

  • Art W.

The food here is good, but the music is terrible. They've got a range to choose from on the menu, and it's decent. I had a sandwich that I remember being pretty good, but in the space of about a week, it's not really all that memorable. I do, however, remember the artichoke dip being quite good that I had... maybe about a year ago? Oh man though... rich, silly people dancing to terrible music. Sit outside. Sit far, far away! Just not my scene, I suppose. Maybe it's better other nights? But it's a place that I feel like I could dress up or dress down for. That's pretty nice. And you don't have to go all the way to Orlando if you're stuck up north, like me. I'll have to be more adventurous on the menu and come to have fun and not just because it's open late and I have nothing in the fridge. Then time to re-evaluate!

Ok, to start off I have to say I love Dexters. I've been to the Thorton Park location and Winter Park several times. This past Sunday the girlfriend and I wanted to try the Lake Mary location for brunch. This location is rather loud for a brunch spot. The floor plan is similar to the others, open and bright. However, if you plan on having any kind of communication with your friends, sit closer. My girlfriend and I found ourselves having to yell at times. Odd. I had the farmland breakfast. Which included, toast, two eggs, two small pancakes and sausage patties. Good meal, everything tasted good. I thought the food was a little cold though, but the taste was good. My girlfriend ordered an egg white omelette. It had chunks of ham and pesto. she said the pesto was a little much, but it was ok. Overall it was a decent brunch. Just a little to loud for me.

Nice bar/restaurant in downtown Lake Mary, FL. This was my first visit, and it was after 10pm on a Friday night with some friends. Decent crowd, good apps, and a live band. Would definitely try again on a future visit!

After years as fans we are done...have been going there since this location opened. Service and food have declined gradually over the years to the point it is just not fun anymore, and for god's sake Dexter, spend some money on the restrooms and keep them clean. Kitchen's are hard to clean, restrooms are not...if the toilets aren't clean imagine what the kitchen's are like...see also Winter Park...we don't go to Thorton Park

The Lake Mary Dexter's Restaurant makes my list of top 5 worst restaurants ever. The restaurant's design and use of hard woods causes the restaurant to amplify any noise and the majority of the other patrons seemed to be pudgy lawyers on their second wives who seemed to be incapable of communicating any way other than shrieking at the top of their lungs. I ordered the duck breast sandwich which arrived poorly seasoned, barely warm and without the advertised brie cheese on it. My son who is 14 and eats everything couldn't stand his shrimp pasta. The shrimp was hard and his dish was also under seasoned. The atmosphere was so noisy as to be painful and I left with a headache. All-in-all, drunken shrieking banshees for customers, poorly seasoned food and a cramped, poorly designed eating area apparently modeled after a sonic torture chamber made for a truly atrocious evening. On my list of worst meals ever, this comes in at number 3 after the time I was served grits with a fly in it at a chain restaurant.

I usually eat at Dexter's for lunch because I work nearby. It has a great and varied menu so I often go there with groups because there is something for everyone. I usually order off of the special menu because I like to live on the edge and I have never been disappointed. My coworker is addicted to their sweet potato fries but they are now offering parmesan truffle oil fries so it's basically a fry-off when I eat there.

Been here only a handful of times (I moved from Heathrow/Lake Mary to College Park nearly 2 years ago), but enjoyed my visits to this location. Usually went for lunch/dinner/drinks and I have no complaints about any of that. Good service and good food. Can probably be tricky to find a parking space on Fri./Sat. nights since this area/shopping center has become wildly popular in recent years.

I have been here before, and we decided to try them for lunch, since they offered a few vegetarian dishes. We started off with cheese fries, less the bacon. I only ordered them for my daughter since she loves them. They were very tasty, I have to admit. The cheese sauce was the perfect consistency and didn't coagulate as soon as they hit the table. I had the Corsican salad, which included marinated artichokes and red peppers and it was a delicious. My daughter got the grilled veggie sandwich and it was a generous portion, making us wish we hadn't order the appetizer.

I'd go back, always up for trying something different. I had the Eggplant Napoleon. Fried eggplant my favorite then topped with spinach and Ricotta. Heaven. Nothing like a little spinach in your teeth to complete my meal. lol! It was delicious. Can't wait to go back to try something else!

Went out here for lunch during a seminar at a nearby hotel. We all got something different and the food and service was great. They had a nice variety of food and the set up was nice too. Indoor outdoor seating was nice since the weather was great. My sandwich and salad had great flavor and was under $10

Went for a lunch meeting was pretty crowded, but good vibes. Great menu with lots of choices. I got the seafood burrito it was yummy. The reason it is 4 stars is that is pretty loud....

Ok this place is top notch! The food is very good quality! Very good. Try the ultimate bloody Mary! The best! The night scene is really good but not my taste (older crowd). But they are always having a good time. Its always packed on the weekends and thurday nights. The dj is professional and it's always packed but the people are way too old that go here. I tend to go here for daytime food drinks stuff. But if you are like 45-up and hip and you want quality, then this is the place for you. PS-Have you always had that crush on your best friends mom. well she is here and wants to take you home. Its ok he wont mind.

Love a place that gets halfway creative with whole dishes. I haven't had anything I didn't like a lot. I'm partial to the chicken tortilla pie thing (fried tortillas.. disgusting and delicious).. and the Eggplant Napoleon.. Flaiva! Re: flaiva.. The ladies at the Lake Mary location are really easy to look at. Especially one that's kinda up my alley.. They look at me while I'm eating. Maybe a little.. or.. probably not. Whatever.. Beer selection is average for beernerds.. they do have Guinness, though.. and the pour was good.. Great place. 0 stars on their website tho. They separate the menu common to each location from the ones specific to each of the 3 locations. Makes no kinda sense.
